XXXXX 29 January 1864

My loving and precious girl:

I must let you know that I have not as yet traveled east.

Today when I came to town, I went directly to XXXXX

to speak with him. There I met (some people) who were thinking about

going, among them XXXXXX. (who) by then had advised them

against going at this time, as he said he had spoken with XXXXXX

who told him that undoubtedly there would be quite a few

from the town that wanted to let their vessels

travel that way, since it was not likely that there would

be any boat service on the Baltic Sea this year.
